SPORT BIKE - Honda CBR300R

Honda’s entry-level street bike, CBR300R, is meant to be a direct challenge to the Kawasaki Ninja and an upgrade to the 250R.
So fas as the upgrade goes, this wins. But head to head, the CBR300R still doesn’t quite meet the same performance the Ninja delivers. For that matter, several makers provide bikes in this category with more horsepower and more torque. A few more points in both categories may not sound like much, until you are hauling some weight up a steep hill. Then, it really matters.
The motor went from 249 to 286ccs. This delivers a bit more jump off the line, but on the top end, it’s not going to be as noticeable. Since it’s a single cylinder, don’t expect racing performance. A one-lunger is designed to get the rider from point A to point B with excellent fuel economy and top end speeds that cruisers and touring bikes will easily beat.
Honda’s specs promise 71 miles per gallon. Expect the mileage to vary. The rider’s weight, hills and speed are going to affect fuel economy. Doing a lot of starting and stopping is going to cut mileage while getting on the open road and setting it at 60-65 miles per hour will deliver optimum fuel consumption.
Some users are reporting the fuel pump gets hot when the gasoline level gets low in the tank. This is something Honda needs to check to see if this is a legit issue or owners not paying close attention. That said, running on reserve is not recommended. Remember, reserve is only meant to get you to a gas station.
The lowdown is, this is a bike that is fun to ride, handles well and will let a rider put down plenty of miles. It is not a bike that an experienced rider is going to be happy with long term. It is a great one for a newbie to start with. In the end, what you really need to know is “entry level.”
